Job overview

·         We are looking for experienced nurses with cardiac surgery HDU/ICU care experience to join us on the cardiac surgical Ben Weir High Dependency Unit.

·         The Ben Weir High Dependency Unit is four beds exclusively available for cardiac surgical patients who require Level 2 care.

·         This will include non-invasive ventilation, arterial and central venous monitoring, temporary epicardial pacing, vasoactive medications, and chest drain management.

·         You will also contribute to the delivery of the cardiac surgical ERAS programme. As well as taking patients out of ICU, you will also support the ward in managing cardiac surgical patients who acutely deteriorate and require enhanced care.

·         You will work within a small team led by a senior nurse to deliver high-quality care to patients. There will be opportunities for you to develop your leadership skills through the delivery of mentorship, education, and training, as well as through the development of protocols.

·         There will be opportunities for you to develop your skills, and we are willing to develop and deliver bespoke educational packages depending on your personal wishes and needs.

  • To support and deputise for the Ward Sister/Charge Nurse to ensure the provision of excellent nursing care and the effective management of staff and other resources.
  • To co-ordinate the day-to-day management of the ward/department and ensure excellent communication is maintained.
  • To ensure that there are education and training opportunities for all staff, including pre and post registration students and /or providing specialist knowledge if working in a clinical area where a post registration course is essential.
